Todd Garrity is a transgender man who is passionate about preventing suicide in the transgender community through the ongoing education of healthcare providers, family members, coworkers, and support group facilitators. He is the owner and healthcare provider of The OM Flow, a Complementary Alternative Medicine Clinic in Denver, Colorado, specializing in Depression/Anxiety and transgender care.
His private practice helps patients struggling with suicidal ideations find emotional balance by aiding them with a multitude of holistic therapies such as meditation, acupuncture, herbs, essential oils and breathing techniques to gain greater self-control of their emotions.
Todd’s lectures and workshops for medical providers assist them in providing more welcoming and inclusive care to their transgender patients. Lectures focus on understanding gender variations, pronoun usage, terminology, intake forms and SOAP notes, patient communication, and local referrals for transgender care. These courses adher to the most up-to-date national standards for education of healthcare professionals as outlined by The Fenway Institute and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.
Support Group Moderator, Trainer and Facilitator
Todd is a Support Group Moderator Trainer for the GLBT Community Center of Colorado, utilizing his 3+ years of experience as a facilitator for Female-to-Male support groups to train new facilitators to effectively manage support groups for the FTM, MTF, Genderfluid/non-binary, and SOFFA (Significant Others, Friends, Family, and Allies of trans* identified persons) groups. He has trained moderators to run these support groups at PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gays), GLBT Community Center of Colorado, and the Gender Identity Center of Colorado, where he also sits as an advisor to the board of directors.
His volunteer service also includes adding and running a new trans-masculine support group twice monthly, providing training for new facilitators, and as a panel member for the University of Denver Psychology Program on Transgender Education, which follows the “Genderbread Person” introductory training model for future counselors. He has a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, BA in Health Sciences, BA in Journalism and minor in Speech Communication. Prior to transitioning from female to male and becoming an acupuncturist, he was a journalist and editor for several Arts & Entertainment newspapers across the country.
